Associate Professor Cameron Homeyer Contributes to Derecho Analysis

Cameron Homeyer, Associate Professor, Chesapeake Energy Professor of Climate Systems Science, and Associate Director for Graduate Programs in the OU School of Meteorology recently contributed to a multi-sensor analysis of the August 2020 derecho in Iowa. Kris Bedka, a severe storm expert at NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, led a team made up of experts NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and from OU. Together, they used satellite and radar data and imagery. This work, which was highlighted by NASA here, examined a storm which did pestilential damage to crops, property, and even cost lives. NASA’s article calls the storm “historically intense”; continued analysis will be needed to fully examine the storm and its impacts.
