The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) at Cornell University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of extreme precipitation. The successful candidate will develop a high-quality research program investigating atmospheric systems associated with extreme precipitation on planetary, mesoscale and/or cloud scales. Preferred candidates will have research interests that encompass a cross-scale approach using one or more set of tools including satellite or ground-based remote sensing techniques, in situ data collection, numeric models and other innovative techniques to understand, inform, and predict real-world problems in extreme precipitation Research areas could include, but not be limited to, land -hydrology-climate interactions, predictability of hydrometeorological and hydroclimate extremes, and/or extreme event attribution.
Candidates with experience in development of new data measurement techniques, high-resolution weather/climate modelling, machine learning, assimilation of data streams from heterogeneous sources, and other novel computational approaches are highly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will be able to interact in teaching and research with colleagues having similar interests at Cornell University, particularly in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Engineering, in which EAS is jointly located. This is a nine-month, tenure-track, academic year professorial position in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The responsibilities of the position will be 50% research and 50% teaching.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in atmospheric, climate or ocean sciences, or a related science or engineering discipline is required.
