Atmospheric Science Software Specialist

This appointment in the Environmental Science Division of the Argonne National Laboratory will involve working on a variety of atmospheric science, machine learning, and general computer science related projects in an open and professional manner.  Projects are ever evolving and there will always be something new to work on, but some basic duties will include contributing to and maintaining open source software, developing data products for complex atmospheric science instrumentation, performing QA/QC on data and analyzing data using advanced methods.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • B.S. in physical sciences related to Atmospheric Sciences or similar required, MS or PhD preferred
  • Strong programming skills with experience in Python, C, and Unix/Linux
  • Knowledge of open source software practices
  • Knowledge of machine learning practices and implementation with observational data or a willingness to learn
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good teamwork and collaboration skills
  • RD2 Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of experience; Master’s and 3+ years; Doctorate and 0 years, or equivalent.
