Using state-of-the-art technology, our aviation weather experts help clients make daily decisions based on how the weather will impact their flights, hubs and overall operations. From flight-by-flight decisions, like Minimum Equipment Lists (MEL) and alternate airports, to hub and system integrity decisions, like ground delays and equipment scheduling, our clients rely on Weathernews to deliver a complete aviation solution that proactively supports the decision-making needs of various airline employees.


This position is a one-year full time contract position with possibility to be considered for a permanent position after the contract has expired. This position is located in our operations facility near the National Weather Center in Norman, Oklahoma.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Analyze and communicate detailed meteorological conditions to include:
    • Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts (TAF) for airports worldwide;
    • Upper air wind and turbulence forecasts, and en-route thunderstorm
    • Freezing/frozen precipitation, icing, ozone, tropical cyclone and volcanic ash forecasts when necessary
  • Make routing recommendations for flights in consideration of en-route hazards, including support for aircraft Minimum Equipment List (MEL) operations
  • Monitor current weather conditions and alert appropriate personnel when severe or operationally significant weather will impact the airline operation, facilities or personnel
  • Issue timely airport wind shear (LLWS) alerts
  • Provide weather training for flight crew and flight dispatchers
  • Support the Flight Control / Air Traffic Control desks as required


Tasks Performed

  • Manual, visual and/or computer analysis of meteorological data
  • Computer- and/or paper-based chart production
  • Data entry into appropriate airline computer systems, including the
  • Brief operations control and/or flight operations personnel on an as-needed
  • Conduct customized daily weather briefings to
  • Participate in airport climatological
  • Produce airport meteorological summaries as well as forecast


Interface requirements

  • Airline Meteorologists, Flight Superintendents, Sector Managers, Duty Directors
  • Flight Crewmembers
  • Any/all other airline personnel working in operations control in an operational capacity
  • Customer Service personnel working in an operational capacity
  • NWS, FAA, OAL personnel



  • Undergraduate degree in Meteorology, or its equivalent in practical training and experience, preferably both
  • Must be, or be capable of becoming, a skilled operational forecaster
  • Must be able to type and use computer-based drawing packages proficiently
  • Must be a good communicator, both verbally and written
  • Must understand the relationship between airline flight operations and weather phenomena
  • Must be able to maintain concentration and focus under time and environmental pressure
  • May have to stand at a chart table for extended periods of time
  • Able to work shifts, normally rotating in 24 x 7 shift-working operational office environment, including weekends and holidays
  • Able to handle significant amounts of time working in front of a computer or on a keyboard
  • Able to successfully manage workload and stress in bad weather situations
