Citadel is a major participant in commodity markets globally, and particularly in North American / European gas and power, and agricultural markets. The Commodities team combines fundamental market expertise with quantitative analytics to identify investment opportunities.

Central Weather

Commodities Central Weather is an in-house research and forecasting team which provides weather support and analytics to our various investment teams globally.

Role & Responsibilities

We are looking to identify a mesoscale forecaster who can work closely with and be the point-of-contact for our investment teams in the US.

The primary responsibility will be to provide and verify local to regional-scale weather forecasts at short lead times (hours to days). Secondary responsibilities include research to improve these forecasts.

We welcome both graduates and those working full-time to apply for this position.

Requirements: Essential

  • Superb educational attainment: Minimum of a Master’s in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field at a leading academic institution with a minimum GPA of 3.7. PhD and Post-Doctoral candidates are welcome to apply, though note this is not a research-intensive position and is applied in nature.
  • Forecasting experience, preferably at short leads, as an extra-curricular pursuit or in industry.
  • Strong Python coding skills for data analysis.
  • Exceptional communication skills: ability to get complex ideas across in simple terms. Brevity. Decisiveness under


    Requirements: Beneficial

  • Machine learning experience, especially if applied to short-range forecasting
  • Experience with forecasting in an energy or commodities trading environment
  • Experience with development of synoptic/mesoscale weather prediction systems
