Meteorologist/Local Sales Representative

The position we are looking to fill is for a meteorologist to forecast at outdoor events and to be the local sales representative for our company.  Qualified applicants should be able to dress, act and communicate in a professional work environment such as a country club atmosphere.  The location of this position may or may not require a relocation as there are a few areas of the country that we would be open to having a new rep/meteorologist.  Moving expenses are a subject of potential consideration, but dependent on location.  We are specifically looking for candidates that have more than 1 year of experience in the field of meteorology.

The forecasting part of the job requires at least a B.S. in Meteorology and will involve mainly domestic travel each Summer/Fall to outdoor events, especially golf with a love of the game very important.  While at an event, the meteorologist is asked to arrive at least 1 hour prior to the first tee time (usually around 7 AM – therefore arriving at or before 6 AM) and to send out short term forecasts (next few hours/days) specifically catering to the staff onsite.   The meteorologist is also responsible for advising the staff about inclement weather such as thunderstorms, fog, rainfall amounts, strong winds, etc.  Our meteorologists use our Thor Guard Lightning Prediction systems and Weather Software such as WeatherTap, Radarscope, etc.  The Thor Guard Lightning Prediction equipment requires set up upon first arriving at an event for the week, which means carrying heavy sandbags, a tripod and the sensor to a location near the weather office that has the best view of the sky (most of the time this means climbing/working on rooftops with ladders).  Using this equipment aids in the high pressure situations of advising the staff as to whether or not all staff, players, spectators and volunteers should be brought into a safe place.  Most days at the course are 12-16 hours long throughout an 8-10 day stretch, staying each day until play ends (which can be 6 to 9 PM some days).  Any extra computer/software proficiency would be beneficial both as a rep selling software and as a meteorologist knowing how to troubleshoot any potential technological issues that could arise on the road.

The Sales representative part of the job requires engaging the area-wide existing customer and potential customer base throughout the year across the assigned territory.  The sales side usually includes site visits and presentations about Thor Guard Lightning Prediction systems.  Confident communication skills would help greatly in both the sales and meteorological portions of this position.  The installation part of the Sales position usually includes installing the Thor Guard Lightning Prediction system (more permanently than the forecasting part of the job) as well as Voice of Thor horn clusters (both solar and electric powered) and the ThorPCX/ThorMobile software.  Maintenance of existing customer’s systems will also be part of this position in which maintenance contracts can be set up in order to assume a happy customer base.

Both parts of this job will require weeks of training, from the forecasting to understanding lightning prediction.  We would like to fill this position soon.  If this position looks like something you would be more interested in, send your resume and cover letter to…

Thank you for your time!
