Operational Meteorologist (Remote Work)

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking a Meteorologist to join our Operational Weather Forecasting Team, providing 24/7 meteorological services to terrestrial-based and marine-based clients. Our Met-Ocean Services Group has over 20 years of experience providing meteorological and oceanographic services in North America and various international locations. If you have a passion for weather analysis and forecasting and wish to forecast for some of the areas with the most extreme weather in North America, then we would love to hear from you! Although weather forecasting will be your primary responsibility, we offer numerous other opportunities to get involved in, such as climate forecasting, climate risk assessment, programming, weather instrumentation support, business development and others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce weather forecasts several times daily for multiple industry sector clients, using a variety of tools and software
  • Provide high-quality meteorological analysis for clients who have access to Wood’s 24/7 on-demand phone consultation services
  • Perform an in-depth weather watch for customers and keep them informed of evolving weather conditions/hazards
  • Provide severe weather alerting across North America and conduct severe event-post analysis to determine better prediction and best response for future events

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or the equivalent educational and operational experience
  • 3 years of operational weather analysis and forecasting experience is required
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong time management and multitasking skills, critical thinking and the ability to work under stress
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment
  • Must be able to accommodate rotating day / night shifts
  • Must be willing to work weekends/holidays/overtime
  • English fluency required. French fluency is not required, but is considered a valuable asset
  • Preference to work a higher proportion of night shifts would be considered an asset but is not required
