Tenure-track professorship

The Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change at the Faculty of
Environmental, Regional and Educational Sciences of the University of
Graz is seeking to appoint a

Tenure-track professorship pursuant to § 99 Para. 5 of the
University Act (UG) “Atmospheric and Climate Dynamics”

(Position to be filled initially for a limited term of six years as
Assistant Professor (f/m) with qualification agreement. Career goal is a
transition to an open-ended employment relationship as Associate
Professor (f/m); 40 hours per week; position to be filled as of October
1st 2019 )

We seek a highly motivated scientist with an excellent research record
on atmospheric and/or climate dynamics in the context of regional
climate change and extreme weather and climate events. The position
holder will be co-leader of Wegener Center’s Regional Climate Research
Group and complement its existing expertise in statistical modeling and
high-resolution dynamical modeling as well as the expertise on climate
and hydrology change research at regional to local scale in the
Atmospheric Remote Sensing and Climate System Research Group. The
position holder is expected to regularly attract external funding and to
collaborate within the Regional Climate Research Group and with the
other groups at Wegener Center and research partners on understanding
how planetary- and synoptic-scale processes control regional climate and
extreme events, and how these processes might change under climate
change. Possible research foci could be the large-scale conditions
causing heat waves, drought or heavy precipitation and hydrological
extremes. We welcome candidates with expertise in designing atmospheric
general circulation model (AGCM) experiments in support of the research
projects pursued. The ability for and commitment to excellence in
teaching in climate science, atmospheric physics and related fields is
expected. He or she will teach four hours per week on average,  at
undergraduate and graduate levels.
