Position: The Oklahoma Mesonet at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for the position of Undergraduate Student Outreach Assistant. This position is a part-time, 12-month appointment.

Salary: $9.00 to $10.00/hr, up to 20 hours per week; salary commensurate with skills and experience.

Beginning Date: Interviews will begin as soon as possible; the appointment will begin once the position is filled. Hours at work will be scheduled around semester classes. The student in this position is expected to work during the summer – additional hours will be available.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will assist the Mesonet Outreach Team with:

• Preparation of educational materials,

• Logistical and scheduling for various outreach workshops,

• Customer support (technical, software and general support) over the phone and via email,

• Upkeep of workshop participant documentation,

• Upkeep of educational content on Mesonet educational outreach websites,

• Teaching portions of educational workshops for different user groups, and

• Other outreach duties as assigned.

The selected candidate will be specifically responsible for assisting with the Oklahoma Mesonet’s OK-First public safety outreach program, and furthermore, will also be expected to assist the Mesonet team with other outreach activities as needed. The position will provide numerous opportunities for gaining experience in teaching non-meteorologists, developing educational materials, and interacting with a variety of customers.

Requirements: Applicants should have completed, in good standing, freshman classes in meteorology. Preference will be given to students with at least 2-years left in their undergraduate degrees. Exceptional students from other disciplines will be considered as well. Applicants should be motivated and have the ability to follow through on projects with minimal supervision. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite is required. The position requires very strong human relations and communication skills, including written and oral. Applicants should be willing to enhance their skills in problem solving, customer service, and public speaking. While not required, additional skills and experience in developing multimedia content (screencasts, HTML5 learning modules, etc.) is strongly desired.
