Position Summary

The Weather Producer Intern uses knowledge of meteorology, weather graphics systems, and product development to learn and assist in the design and execution of TWC’s national live studio programming. They help to ensure that each show covers relevant weather events through compelling stories and that those stories are told in the proper order with visual components that are both accurate and meet TWC standards and style. Working alongside WPD’s full-time staff, the Weather Producer Intern coordinates with producers, experts, and on-camera meteorologists to ensure that their weather storytelling is well-organized, well-prepared, and includes language that connects most effectively with our target television audience.


  • Pursuing Meteorology/Atmospheric Science (or similar) degree
  • Fundamental knowledge of WSI’s TruVu Max graphical system and its operational capabilities
  • Able to quickly learn and contribute to the WPD team

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Learns to create content using multiple graphic systems, with an emphasis on WSI’s TruVu Max, to enhance on-air coverage of a weather story
  • Stays aware of the current meteorological pattern and contributes stories to the weather-content editorial process
  • Coordinates with Meteorological Content Producers on earlier and later shifts to assure continuity in weather storytelling
  • Learns to drive the inclusion and prioritization of weather stories in the assigned program or daypart, creates the graphics, and/or commissions the creation and/or acquisition of supporting visual elements
  • Ensures that all weather graphics adhere to meteorological and design standards
  • Uses all technology concurrently to tell specific weather stories including utilizing TruVu Max’s severe weather tools
  • Ensure that TWC is first-to-air visually and verbally with all breaking weather information
  • Completes assigned projects thoroughly and in a timely manner
  • Supports coverage of significant weather events
  • Is capable of working in support of WPD’s 24/7 partnership with Live Programming


Education, Experience, Certification Requirements

  • Undergrads – Enrolled in an undergrad program at an accredited college or university. 18 years or older and current sophomore standing, no more than a graduating senior by the start of the summer session
  • Must be able to commit to a minimum of 3 days per week either on a part-time or full-time basis
  • Must be US Citizen or on F1 visa
