Professor Xuguang Wang Co-Leads Congress Mandated Report on Priorities for Weather Research (PWR)

Professor Xuguang Wang of School of Meteorology was invited to co-lead the observation and data assimilation task team, one of the three task teams, to perform a Congress mandated study, which aimed to provide recommendations to the Congress on prioritizing federal investments in the US weather research and forecasting enterprise over the next decade.

The study, charged by the US Congress and organized by the NOAA Science Advisory Board, had three pillars: (1) Observation and data assimilation, (2) Forecasting, and (3) Information delivery, and engaged more than 150 national and international subject matter experts from across the Weather Enterprise.  The outcome is a Report on Priorities for Weather Research (PWR), which includes 11 priority areas, 33 recommendations, 102 critical actions, and 10 immediate first steps.
