Researchers find inconsistencies in Unified Model

Researchers from the Center for Analysis and Prediction of Storms and the School of Meteorology at the University of Oklahoma, Purdue University, and the Korea Meteorological Administration collaborated on a recent project that found that the Unified Model might exhibit shortcomings contingent on storm type. The Unified Model, or UM, is a climate and weather simulation modeling system operated by the Met Office of the United Kingdom. Marcus Johnson, an OU Ph.D. student, was the first author on the paper; Johnson and his team compared UM forecasts with observed polarimetric radar data and documented potential weaknesses and biases in the model.
