School of Meteorology Updates Grad Application Dates

Each year, the Graduate Admissions Committee at the OU School of Meteorology works to improve the application process for prospective new graduate students. The committee’s goal is to create a process that is as seamless as possible for both the candidates and the scientists who will consider them for research or teaching assistantships. This year, the committee has chosen to eliminate the School’s former two-step application process in favor of having students apply directly to the University through the Graduate College. Ideally, this will save time for all those involved. Prospective students are encouraged to peruse the “How to Apply” section of the School’s website, read up on the research of the various faculty members and adjunct/affiliate faculty members, and reach out to those whose research interests them the most. Questions and concerns may be directed to the School’s Coordinator of Graduate Programs, Christie Upchurch.

  • The Admissions Committee will begin the review process December 1 for the fall semester. Please submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended along with GRE scores, personal statement, and three letters of recommendation. Please refer to the Graduate College site: http://www.ou.edu/gradweb
  • Initial review of applications will begin December 1 and continue throughout the spring semester. The final deadline to apply is June 1, but you are strongly encouraged to apply early.
  • We have admitted successful graduate students with B.S. degrees in meteorology, physics, mathematics, engineering, geology, remote sensing, environmental science, and other diverse backgrounds.
