National Weather Center Colloquium: Speaker Bio

An efficient non-parametric data assimilation method for atmospheric research and ensemble forecasting

Dr. Jonathan Poterjoy

Institute for Mathematics Applied to Geosciences Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Laboratory

Dr. Poterjoy received B.S. in Meteorology and Applied Mathematics from Millersville University (2009) and Ph.D. in Meteorology from Penn State (2014). His dissertation research focused on coupling ensemble and variational data assimilation strategies for mesoscale analysis and forecasting, with a concentration on tropical cyclogenesis and intensification. He is now employed by NCAR, where he received a postdoctoral fellowship from the Advanced Study Program. He currently works jointly between the Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Laboratory and Data Assimilation Research Section of NCAR on topics related to nonlinear filtering and mesoscale weather prediction
