National Weather Center Colloquium: Speaker Bio

Dual-polarization radar as a tool to improve the performance of numerical weather prediction models

Dr. Alexander Ryzhkov
Senior Scientist
CIMMS / NSSL

Dr. Ryzhkov graduated from Leningrad State University (former Soviet Union) with M.S. (1974) and Ph.D. (1977) degrees, both in radio physics. In 1977-1992 he worked at the Main Geophysical Observatory (St. Petersburg, Russia) as research scientist and director of radar meteorology laboratory. In 1992-1995, he had an NRC appointment with NSSL and in 1995 he joined CIMMS. His major areas of expertise are radar meteorology and remote sensing with the focus on utilization of polarimetric weather radars.
