Senior Spotlight May 2021 – Jacob Genuise

This year we are continuing our tradition of Senior Spotlights! For everyone, 2020 and 2021 have been challenging years, but we want to highlight our amazing seniors for preserving through these difficult times.

Meet Jacob Genuise! He is from Little Elm, Texas. Jacob grew up watching storms in his backyard and loved learning about winter weather in North Texas.

His meteorology career here in Norman has led to him getting involved in a variety of different organizations. Jacob was involved with SCAN, as he served as the Freshmen Representative. He also was a Student Operator at the Oklahoma Mesonet for 3 ½ years!

Jacob says the toughest part of college came with learning a new skillset that he was unfamiliar with.

“I had very little experience with coding coming in and struggled a bit at first, but eventually became more comfortable with it,” he said.

He says his favorite part about college is the people around him.

“I have had the opportunity to develop relationships with faculty, staff, and of course other students that have helped me feel like I belong and helped guide me into my current career path,” he said.

After graduation, Jacob will be attending Colorado State this Fall to pursue a M.S. degree in Ecosystem Science and Sustainability. His main project will be on international climate change negotiations. This summer I will be doing fieldwork in various national parks in Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, and California studying the impact of climate variability on bees and other pollinators.

Congratulations, Jacob! The School of Meteorology is excited to see all you do in the future!
