Senior Spotlight May 2021 – Spencer McCormick

Senior Spotlight May 2021 – Spencer McCormick

This year we are continuing our tradition of Senior Spotlights! For everyone, 2020 and 2021 have been challenging years, but we want to highlight our amazing seniors for preserving through these difficult times.

Meet Spencer McCormick! He’s from Whitehall, Michigan, and since a second-grade lesson on types of weather, Spencer knew that meteorology was the path for him.

“My second-grade teacher did a lesson over types of clouds, warm/cold fronts, and Michigan’s weather,” he said. “Ever since that lesson, my passion for weather stuck with me until I got to high school where our advisors asked us to research some schools/degrees we would be interested in. I found Oklahoma’s school of Meteorology and became instantly hooked.”

To him, the toughest part of college was asking for help from professors, faculty, and friends, but once Spencer learned that “it is OK to not understand something the first time of hearing it,” the less worried he was about asking questions or feeling shame from his peers.

But college is not all difficult times!

My favorite part of college was meeting people from all over the country and experiencing southern hospitality,” he said.

After graduation in May, Spencer plans to start working as a Meteorological Support Technician for WeatherFlow!  He will be forecasting in the Great Lakes Region and helping with the Customer Support team.

Congratulations, Spencer! The School of Meteorology is excited to see all you do in the future!
