SOM Student Awarded Best Student Paper (AMS ARAM 2020)

Nathan Lis, an M.S. student in the School of Meteorology, was selected as the winner of the 2020 AMS Conference on Aviation, Range, and Aerospace Meteorology (ARAM) Best Student Paper award with the entry:

“Drop size distribution retrieval from radar data to enhance the spectral bin classification in detecting icing conditions” (Lis, paper 8.2).

He received 1st in the 2020 ARAM Best Student Paper competition in addition to a monetary award.

Lis is mentored by NOAA Affiliate, Dr. Heather Reeves and SoM Faculty member, Dr. Guifu Zhang.

His mentors and all of us here at the School of Meteorology are extremely proud of his work!
