New Additions to the School of Meteorology

New Additions to the School of Meteorology

The School of Meteorology has the privilege to welcome several new faculty and staff members this semester! Learn more about these individuals below:

Connor Flynn, Ph.D.

Connor Flynn is a Senior Research Scientist, working primarily on aerosol-climate interactions. He came to the School from Pacific Northwest National Laboratories (PNNL). His Ph.D. is in atomic physics, with an emphasis on high vacuum detection of electron atoms and molecular beams. After completing his doctorate, Dr. Flynn took a post-doctoral position at PNNL, where his strength in instrumentation was initially focused on the DOE’s Atmospheric Radiation Measurements (ARM) program. In 2003, he led the development of aerosol-related “value-added products” within ARM, and in 2007 began a collaboration with the sun photometry group at NASA AMES leading up to the first airborne deployments of 4STAR. From 2015 until he began work with the School, Dr. Flynn coordinated efforts to mature and harmonize aerosol in-situ measurements conducted by ARM. We’re excited to see his research begin in Norman!

Feng Xu, Ph.D.

Feng Xu, Ph.D.

Feng Xu is an Associate Professor. He joined the School from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), California Institute of Technology with expertise in developing and applying remote sensing theory for passive aerosol and cloud remote sensing. As a science team member on NASA’s EVI mission – Multi-Angle Imager for Aerosols (MAIA), he leads the development of MAIA Level-2 aerosol retrieval algorithm. Before joining the School, he was also responsible for developing aerosol and cloud remote sensing algorithms for MAIA’s prototype – the Airborne Multiangle SpectroPolarimetric Imager  Dr. Xu will begin teaching in the Spring semester and plans to teach and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students.

Julie Dahlgren, MLIS

Julie Dahlgren is the Assistant to the Director for the School of Meteorology. Julie, who is originally from Canada, has worked as an administrative assistant since 2003 and has been employed at OU since July 2009.  Her OU experience includes eight years as Administrative Assistant to the Commanding Officer, Department of Naval Science (NROTC), and two years Administrative Assistant to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Gallogly College of Engineering.

We’re thrilled with these new additions and look forward to working with them!
