OU Research Team Leads Study on Global Distribution, Trends and Drivers of Flash Droughts

OU Meteorology post-doctoral researcher Jordan Christian, Ph.D. and the CHEW-e research group have published a new study in Nature Communications about ‘flash droughts’, a “period of rapid drought intensification with impacts on agriculture, water resources, ecosystems, and the human environment”, according to the article. Christian and his research advisor, Jeff Basara, Ph.D. developed a method to identify flash droughts. They’ve also published in Environmental Research Letters, as well, and there’s a great article written by the OU Vice President for Research and Partnerships office. Please give it a read here. We’re excited about the work the CHEW-e group is doing!
